IT’S GREAT TO HAVE YOU JOINING OUR MOBILE APP MAKING!

PLEASE READ THE FOLLOWING INSTRUCTIONS CAREFULLY  SO THAT YOU ARE ABLE TO JOIN OUR CLASSES WITHOUT ANY ISSUES.

We will learn to make real, functioning mobile phone apps! It is easy to build the applications with an online editor. You can share your apps with your friends and family or even download them to an app store. We will make translator apps, talking apps, drawing apps etc.

We will also learn to use Artificial Intelligence (AI), such as different speech and image recognition  methods.

You do not need any previous coding or app making experience as we start from scratch.

You will join the class via a Zoom video call. We will send you a link to the app editor in the beginning of the class via a Zoom chat. You will also need your mobile phone, on which you will have MIT App Inventor application installed (instructions underneath).

YOU WILL NEED THE FOLLOWING;

BEFORE THE FIRST CLASS;

# 1 INSTALL MIT APP ON YOUR PHONE

You will need to install  MIT App Inventor on your phone. We use this to test our applications during the classes.

Install the application via the QR codes or the links underneath.

You can find detailed installation guide also in here >> (Option One)

If you do not have a mobile phone, you can test your apps via an emulator (test program) which you can install on your computer. You will find installation guide here>> (Option Three)

Install the application via the QR codes or the links underneath.

# 2 CHECK SYSTEM REQUIREMENTS

Please ensure your computer has the following:

CHROME INTERNET BROWSER

  • We recommend that you use Chrome for the classes (Chrome 30+ or newer), so that all the applications work correctly.  If you don’t currently have Chrome, please install it from here >>  INSTALL CHROME

OPERATING SYSTEM; Windows 7 or MacOS 10.9 or newer.

# 3 TEST ZOOM CONNECTION

We use Zoom for communication during the lessons.

Please follow the guide underneath to test that you Zoom call works as needed and your camera and microphone also work. You can use the ID and password which we sent via WhatsApp.

You do not need to install the Zoom app on your computer, but you can find it here should you wish to do so >> INSTALL ZOOM. Choose “Zoom desktop client” on top of the page and follow the prompts.

If you are not able to get your camera and microphone to work, please contact us asap so we can help. It is imperative that both work without any issues.

# 4 OPEN A GOOGLE ACCOUNT IF YOU DON’T HAVE ONE ALREADY

Your child will be logging in to the app editor with Google or Gmail account. You can use an existing account or open a new account here >>

Write a note with the username and password next to your child’s computer, so they find it easily when needed.

Google may ask for user verification first time your child logs into the app editor by sending a code to a mobile phone or email. Please note, that the child will then need to type in the code in order to access the editor, so it is a good idea to be nearby for the first lesson.

If you open a new account for your child, you don’t need to use it for any other purposes. You can also set the account up under your own account so you can set up safety features and restrictions as you desire.

HOW TO USE ZOOM;
