IT’S GREAT TO HAVE YOUR CHILD JOINING KiddiCode CLUB!
To start coding you will need the following;
- A computer with webcam. We recommend Windows or Mac OS but other operating systems will also work.
- Min screen size 14"
- Internet connection
- Python IDLE installed as per guide below.
!!! PLEASE READ AND FOLLOW EACH STEP OF THE INSTALLATION GUIDE CAREFULLY EVEN AFTER YOU ARE DIRECTED TO A DOWNLOAD SITE !!!
You can check full system requirements on Python website although you should be able to use the software on most computers.
If your child uses Chromebook, click here for different instructions.
! ! ! IMPORTANT! Please download your software in good time before start of the club, preferably previous day. We try and help where we can but we are not able to answer last minute messages.
! ! ! Also ensure you have set up the programs on the screen before start of the class as advised at the bottom of this page, so we can start coding straight away and do not have to start locating programs separately on each individual computer.
HOW TO INSTALL PYTHON IDLE-
STEP BY STEP GUIDE
This guide is for Windows. Mac OS looks slightly different but functions similarly, just follow the prompts.
You will find download link and full instructions on Python.org site. Click HERE to get started https://www.python.org/downloads/.

Click “DOWNLOAD PYTHON” in the yellow box. Your download will start and will show on left hand side bottom corner on PC. In Mac this may show on different location. Please note that speed of download depends on your internet connection.

Once your download is ready to install, the following window will pop up. Click on the top option as pointed by the arrow.
Your computer might ask if you “Allow this program to make changes to your computer?” Click “YES”. It will now run through Setup.

Your installation is complete. Click “CLOSE”.

Now you can create a shortcut for your desktop. Go to your settings > find Python IDLE folder > right click your mouse on top of the folder > click “More” > click “Open file location” > right click on top of the icon on top and choose “Create shortcut” > Drag the shortcut on your desktop.
BEFORE THE CLASS-
!!! Open Python IDLE and your browser where your Zoom is open, side by side on your desktop as in the following image. This makes it easier to start the class and it’s easier for your child to follow the class with both windows already set up. On Mac OS Python IDLE window looks slightly different with three coloured buttons on top left hand side with text Python 3.9.0 Shell on top bar.
!!! Also test your microphone and camera so that your KiddiCoder will be able to communicate with us.
